Bear Market
A bear market is a long, painful drop in stock prices — officially, a fall of 20% or more from recent highs. Bear markets feel endless while you're living through one, and the news gets apocalyptic. But every single bear market in history has eventually ended and been followed by new highs.
Example: In 2008 the S&P 500 fell 37% — a brutal bear market that had fully recovered within about five years.
