Dividend
A dividend is a cash payout a company sends its shareholders, usually every quarter — your slice of the profits. Not every company pays one: young, fast-growing companies typically reinvest everything instead. Reliable dividends are one reason retirees love boring, profitable companies.
Example: Own 100 shares of a stock paying a $1 annual dividend and you collect $100 a year, even if the share price never moves.
