Equity
Equity means ownership. When you own stock, you hold equity in a company; when your home is worth more than your mortgage balance, the difference is your home equity. Building equity — owning more of what you have — is the quiet engine of wealth.
Example: A home worth $500,000 with a $350,000 mortgage balance gives you $150,000 in home equity.
